RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

R.C.I.A. is the process by which an adult enters the Catholic Church. It is for those who have never been baptized, or for those who were baptized in another Christian Church, or for anyone baptized Roman Catholic but never completed their sacramental formation (i.e., have not received Confirmation and/or First Communion).

The program runs from mid-September until a few weeks after Easter. We meet on Tuesday evenings - 7:15 until 8:45pm for study and discussion. If you would like more information about becoming a Catholic or completing your Catholic Sacraments, please call Jim Malinowski at 215-673-5177.

If you are a parish member and can encourage someone to join our Catholic Family fully, please share this information with them and keep encouraging them. Jesus has sent you to share His message!

JOIN THE KOLPING SOCIETY

The Catholic Kolping Society of Philadelphia (the “Kolping Verein” as some older Catholics with German roots may remember it) is seeking new members. You may join as an individual member or married couples as a family unit. The first Kolping Society was founded in Germany in 1849 by Father (now Blessed) Adolph Kolping, a priest of the Cologne Diocese.

The aim of the Kolping Society is to help form solid Catholic and Christian families by offering support and training for young men and women starting to raise a family. The Philadelphia Kolping Society meets on the grounds of the Danube Swabian Society on Southampton Road. Chaplain for the group is Father Michel, our parochial vicar here at St. Christopher’s.

For more information take home a yellow flyer that can be found near the church exits, or check out the information table on October 3 & 4 at Stewardship Day in Holy Family Hall.

PAPER RECYCLING ST. CHRISTOPHER STYLE

Paper Retriever bins are located in the parking area off of Lindsay Street behind school; there are also two other paper bins in the parking lot next to Trainer Hall. Parishioners and neighbors are welcomed and encouraged to make use of these bins by depositing your catalogs, magazines, newspapers, junk mail, office, fax, and school paper, notebooks, and folders. Hardback books may also be deposited if the covers are removed first.

You may also include all your shredded paper in plastic bags. Simply poke a few holes in the bags first so that they won’t burst open in the bins or in the pick-up truck. Phone books are not to be included as they are already made of recycled paper.

PROPER MARKING OF CHURCH ENVELOPES & REGISTRATION

To help insure the recorded accuracy of your contributions, we ask you to use your church envelopes which are mailed to your homes on a bimonthly basis. Clearly circle or write the amount of your donation on the envelope.

Temporary envelopes are also provided in the vestibule (main entrance) of the church if you have forgotten or do not receive envelopes.

If you are registered and are not currently receiving envelopes, please call the parish office; we will be happy to reinstate them.
If you have not registered in the parish as of yet, registration packets are available in the rack on the wall of the main entrance of church or come to the parish office during our normal business hours. Once registered, you will be added to the list to receive envelopes.

DO YOU KNOW YOUR MARRIAGE TRIBUNAL?

The Tribunal is a group of specially qualified priests, sisters, and lay persons whose responsibility is to come to the help of people who have experienced divorce.

When a divorce occurs, the Catholic Church always seeks to balance two realities. One is the unbreakableness of the bond of marriage. This is God’s law. It cannot be broken by human intervention. On the other hand, the Church is concerned about the spiritual welfare of the people involved. Was this a true marriage? Even though a Catholic marriage was celebrated, was there perhaps some weakness in the consent of the parties involved? The annulment procedure addresses this problem without affixing blame on either party.

If you are divorced or married outside the Catholic Church, please telephone the Tribunal Office. Have no fear. All interviews are private.

THE TRIBUNAL
222 NORTH 17TH STREET - PHILA., PA 19103

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT SCHEDULING PARISH FACILITIES

We have had a number of problems recently about scheduling of Trainer Hall, Holy Family Hall, the Parish Meeting Room, School Library, etc. Effective immediately, the following are in order:

  • All requests for use of parish facilities, halls, meeting rooms, etc. must be made in writing to Father Joe and routed to our parish office manager Anne Beebie. Timely notification of approval will be given to the person/organization making the request.
  • Please do not assume that permission given in a previous year means that no permission need be asked in the current year. For example, if a parish group had a function or activity in Trainer or Holy Family Hall last year, the group president or his/ her delegate needs to ask again this year.
  • Requests will be honored not on a “first come” basis, but on general parish priorities. For example, there may be times that something pertaining to the entire parish like the annual Parish Mission may mean that another group needs to reschedule or move its previously scheduled meeting.
  • Please do not publicize a meeting or event until you get approval to use the parish facility you have requested.

FIVE GOOD REASONS

Five good reasons why you should include Saint Christopher Parish in your estate plans with a Charitable Bequest:

  1. A bequest is the easiest way to make sure that the things you care about will be provided for in the future.
  2. You can make a significant gift without affecting your current income or cash flow.
  3. You can direct your bequest to a specific program in the parish.
  4. You can receive a charitable estate tax deduction.
  5. Future generations will benefit from your generosity.
